Common questions about fire-rated assemblies in San Diego County

The rating belongs to the whole tested assembly, not the board alone: specific stud framing, a specific number and type of gypsum layers, fastener schedules, insulation where listed, and sealed penetrations. We build to that tested configuration exactly, because a rated wall built almost right is not rated.

Corridors, stairwells, elevator and utility shafts, walls between dwelling units, occupancy separations, and some ceilings and soffits. Your architect defines the locations and hourly ratings; our job is to build each one to its listing and have it pass inspection the first time.

Yes. We are regularly brought in to correct rated assemblies another crew built wrong: missing layers, unsealed penetrations, wrong fastener spacing. We open up what needs opening, rebuild to the listing, and get the inspection passed so the schedule can move.

We track the assemblies we build against their listings and keep the paperwork inspectors and closeout packages ask for, so your rated scope is provable, not just built.
